Staff Software Engineer

The Role

As a Staff Software Engineer on the AI team, you'll build scalable AI-powered backend services, design resilient distributed systems, and collaborate with AI, ML, and product teams to deliver production-grade solutions. This hands-on role is ideal for engineers passionate about solving complex backend challenges and scaling AI across a modern cloud platform.

• AI Platform Development: Build backend services that integrate AI and ML capabilities into production applications.
• Platform Architecture & Scalability: Design highly available distributed systems using Elixir and fault-tolerant architecture patterns.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with AI Product leaders to define technical architecture and implementation strategies. Drive technical discussions while balancing scalability, reliability, and business impact.

The "Must-Haves"

• 2+ years of production experience building backend applications using Elixir/Phoenix.
• Strong proficiency with TypeScript and experience working across multiple programming languages.
• Experience integrating AI services using OpenAI, ChatGPT APIs, Anthropic, or similar LLM platforms.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, fault-tolerant architecture, concurrency, and event-driven systems.
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL, REST APIs, cloud platforms (GCP preferred, AWS/Azure), and messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.

The "Bonus" Skills

• Experience with Prompt Engineering, AI API optimization, and cost-aware AI implementations.
• Familiarity with Vertex AI, Modal.com, Cloudflare Workers AI, or similar ML platforms.
• Knowledge of event sourcing, real-time ML serving, semantic search, or vector databases.
• Experience within logistics, supply chain, or e-commerce platforms.
• Active GitHub or open-source contributions, particularly related to Elixir, AI, or distributed systems.
